Resident Spotlight: Ruth Iversen

This month, we are honored to shine a light on one of our wonderful residents, Ruth Iversen, and celebrate the experiences that have shaped who she is today.

A Journey That Began on the Road

Every life has a story, and some begin in the most unexpected places. For Ruth, her journey started on the road, born while traveling from Colorado to Minnesota. It’s a beginning that feels symbolic of a life shaped by movement, resilience, and meaningful experiences.

Reflections on Growing Up

Growing up in a different era, the world looked and felt much different than it does today. When reflecting on those early years, one word stands out to Ruth when asked about memorable events: sugar. Though a seemingly simple word, it speaks to a time when the sugar industry was an important part of life for the area. When comparing generations, Ruth notes that one of the biggest differences today is respect, a value she holds close and believes is essential in every aspect of life.

Learning Responsibility Early

Like many, Ruth’s working years began modestly, with a first job as a babysitter. It was a role that likely helped build responsibility early on, something that would become a guiding principle throughout her life. In fact, the most memorable advice passed down from parents and grandparents was clear and direct: take responsibility. It’s a message that has stood the test of time.

A Love Story in Nebraska

Love entered Ruth’s life during their college years in Nebraska, where she met her husband while attending a youth convention. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful connections happen when we least expect them, in moments of shared purpose and community.

Cherished Traditions and Family Time

Family has always been at the center of Ruth’s life, especially when it comes to traditions. Cooking Christmas meals remains a cherished activity, bringing loved ones together through food, laughter, and shared memories.

A Heart of Gratitude

When it comes to holidays, Thanksgiving holds the top spot for Ruth. As she beautifully put it, it’s her favorite holiday “because we don’t have to worry about presents, just give thanks.” That sentiment perfectly reflects her outlook on life, focused not on material things, but on gratitude and togetherness.

Lifelong Hobbies and Passions

Outside of family traditions, Ruth has nurtured a variety of hobbies and interests over the years. A love for education, playing the piano, and sewing highlights both creativity and lifelong curiosity. These passions not only enrich her life but also serve as a reflection of dedication and a willingness to keep learning.

A Spirit of Generosity

When asked what she would do if she won a million dollars, Ruth’s answer was immediate and heartfelt: donate. It’s a simple yet powerful response that speaks volumes about her character and values always thinking of others and the greater good.

A Life That Inspires

At The Lodge, we’re proud to call Ruth a part of our family. Her story is a beautiful reminder that a meaningful life isn’t defined by grand moments alone, but by the values we carry, the traditions we keep, and the kindness we share. From a journey that began on the open road to a life grounded in gratitude and generosity, her story continues to inspire all who have the privilege of knowing her.
