Resident Spotlight: Dorothy Larsen

This month, we're delighted to shine a spotlight on one of our wonderful residents, Dorothy Larsen!

Hometown Memories

Born in Savage, Montana, Dorothy has many fond memories of growing up in a close-knit community. Looking back on her childhood, she describes herself as a bit of a tomboy who enjoyed staying active and making the most of every day. Those early years helped shape the positive outlook and resilient spirit that she still has to this day.

First Steps Into Working Life

Dorothy's first job was at the bowling alley located next to Sidney High School, which is now Sidney Middle School. It was an exciting first step into the working world and one she still remembers with a smile.

A New Chapter

Credit goes to Dorothy’s sister for leading her to an important new chapter of life by introducing her to the man who would become her husband.  A simple meeting that led to years of special memories.

Then vs. Now

When Dorothy reflects on how life has changed over the years, she fondly remembers a time when respect for elders was a way of life and people found contentment in the things they already had. She believes there was a special appreciation for family, neighbors, and community, and that people learned to make the most of what they had. Those values have remained important to her throughout her life.

If she could travel back in time, Dorothy wouldn't hesitate to choose the 1950s. It was a decade that, according to Dorothy, was so much fun and full of memories she won’t ever forget.

Hobbies and Interests

Today, Dorothy enjoys expressing her creativity through crafting, a hobby that keeps her busy and brings her joy. She also likes spending time with family, especially during Christmas, her favorite holiday. The opportunity to gather with loved ones, celebrate traditions, and make new memories is something she looks forward to each year.

Words of Wisdom

One lesson Dorothy has carried with her throughout her life came from her parents, who encouraged her to live each day to the fullest. It is advice she has never forgotten and continues to live by as she approaches each day with gratitude and purpose.

We, too are full of gratitude for Dorothy and all the kindness and smiles she brings to The Lodge community.
