Building a Home with Heart: A Director’s Journey at The Lodge

In recognition of our 25 years of service, past and current employees are sharing their experiences at The Lodge.
“Theresa Livers, the administrator of extended care, shared the theory of assisted living with me. After working in long-term care for several years this concept was extremely exciting. Theresa encouraged me to apply for the position as Director of The Lodge, and I was hired in1999. Sharing the concept with families and potential residents was rewarding. I have always had a soft spot for the elderly and was excited to offer them a different opportunity in elder care. A place that felt like home where they were able to retain some of their independence and yet their families knew someone was there to help them when needed.
I was asked if I had a favorite resident and I really didn’t. Each one had something special to offer and touched me in some way. Learning their life histories was something I enjoyed very much. Some of the ladies taught me how to play bridge- never ever learned it well. We always had a puzzle set up and everyone, residents and staff, would stop and put in a couple of pieces. It was fun to see how long it would take to finish it. One year some of the staff rented a limousine and we took some of the residents over to Four Bears in New Town. Lots of laughs that day! There were so many events it is impossible to list them all.
I always felt fortunate to have a great staff. They had to learn right along with me and find solutions to different events. Theresa Livers was always there to help us find the right path.
I learned and grew so much during my years at The Lodge. Always felt the logo was very appropriate “Come Home To The Lodge”!”
